Working parties area of health created within the European network of competition
The European Commission published a report indicating that the European Competition Network, consisting of the national authorities of competition and the European Commission, has created 15 sectoral subgroups among which subgroups relating to medication, professional services and to health care (Note 119 - page 20).

Tackling the pay gap between women and men
The European Commission published a report expressing that women continue to earn around 15% less than men in the EU, and which puts solutions forward to combat this problem: existing legislation should be applied better; the wage gap should be fought as part of the labour policies employed by the Member States; wage equality should be promoted amongst employers; good practice across the community should be encouraged; and social partners should be included.

Europe’s Social Reality: A ‘stocktaking’
The European Commission is carrying out a public consultation on the ‘social reality’ of Europe today, seeking a variety of perspectives on the dramatic changes underway in European societies. The consultation aims to generate debate on social realities across Europe by seeking out views on current social trends and on what contributes to today’s ‘well being’. It poses questions on access to education and employment as well as on the implications of changing social relationships. The deadline for responses and comments is 31 December 2007.

Call for tender on Injuries of Healthcare Workers
The European Commission DG Employment published a call for tender entitled ‘Contract for the provision of services for drawing up a non-binding guide to prevention and good practice with a view to improving the health and safety of workers in the hospitals and healthcare sector’. The deadline for sending proposals is 21 September 2007.
